Let's bridge the gap so that ALL kids have the opportunity to succeed

The Louisiana Center for Children's Rights goes to the mat for their kids every day -- in the courtroom, in the classroom, and in the community. But sometimes what stands between their kids and their success are small costs.

Robert keeps getting suspended from school for dress code violations, but he cannot afford the cost of a new uniform. Vanessa wants to live with her Dad in Houston to escape the bad influences in her neighborhood, but cannot afford the airfare. Kevin wants to get his juvenile record cleared so that he can get a job, but he cannot afford the cost of doing so.

LCCR believe that no child should be mired in the justice system because they lack means to pay for these small things. So sometimes their staff covers costs out of pocket -- in some cases literally giving kids the shoes off their feet. But this isn't sustainable, and these $50, $100, and $500 costs can really add up.

This holiday season, I'm rallying to raise money for LCCR's Client Resource Fund -- a reserve used to help their children cover the small costs that stand in the way of opportunity.
