Help Support Kids in LA's Oppressive, Racist Legal System

Hi! If you are here reading this, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Even clicking on the link is something I appreciate so very much. As y'all know, I have been working as a defense investigator at the Orleans Parish juvenile public defenders office since 2021. During these few years I have seen firsthand the damage this unjust system does to kids, their families, and their communities. These kids are not the monsters they are made out to be. Let's face it, this country's punitive system disproportionately perpetuates harm against poor black and brown communities.

So, I am here, asking for even $5 to get these kids what they need. This fund goes directly to kids who need it without the non-profit red tape getting in the way. In the courtroom, the classroom, and in the community often something as small as a bus pass or access to a computer is what stands between these client's having opportunities or being further criminalized.

No one, especially a kid, should sink deeper into the legal system because they cannot afford the small costs that matter so much to their success. Last year I had a Spanish speaking client who faced jail time for an objectively minor offense. But his dedicated legal team worked to get the court to agree to allowing him to complete an online ESL course in lieu of a harsh punishment...but he didn't have access to a computer. We were able to tap into this fund and get him a Chrome Book and he successfully completed the program! This was possible due to the generous 2023 donors - if you are here again, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
